Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR)

The Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program is a federal initiative that supports collaboration between small businesses and research institutions to develop innovative technologies. The program is designed to stimulate technological advancement by funding joint research efforts that have both commercial potential and applications for government needs. Through STTR, federal agencies provide funding for small businesses to partner with universities or other research entities, helping bring scientific discoveries to market.

STTR focuses on high-tech fields, such as defense, energy, and healthcare, where breakthroughs can significantly impact national security and economic development. The program is structured in three phases: feasibility studies, research and development, and commercialization. This collaborative approach helps small businesses access research expertise and infrastructure they may not otherwise be able to afford. By fostering innovation and technology transfer, STTR enables small businesses to contribute to solving complex problems while increasing their commercial and federal contracting success.
